Understanding child sexual abuse

You can help protect children by building warm, open relationships where they feel safe to talk and know they will be listened to and taken seriously. It can be hard to talk about, but understanding how abuse happens — and how children might show they need help — is an important step in keeping them safe.

Learn more about how children disclose abuse, who abuses children, recognise signs of harm, what’s considered age-appropriate sexual behaviour, and the effects abuse can have.
